Renee Dahl is a narrative painter who  takes a hyper-realistic approach to her subject matter, often mixing irreverence and surrealism in her story lines. She was born in Stockholm to a Finnish mother with artistic talents of her own and a Swedish father who spent many years as an engineer and designed the concrete highway dividers that prevented vehicles from accidentally crossing into oncoming traffic, thereby saving countless lives since the design was introduced in the 1960s. When she was five years old her father moved the family to the United States,  where they first settled in midwest, and later moved to Long Islands South Shore.

After her time at Cornell University, where she studied Astrophysics, she ventured to New York City where her love of Barbie shaped her career. She showed successfully in numerous galleries in the city, portraying the timeless Barbie doll in life sized scenarios as American Iconography.

 

In 1987 she had her first child, Carl, born during the premier of Star Trek the next generation. Carl Robert Dahl IV, who is now a successful sci-fi writer. in 1992 Renee moved her family to the East End full time, opening the Renee Dahl Gallery in East Quogue. Moving gradually further East, Renee welcomed her daughter Emma in 1994, who is now a successful Figure Skating Instructor, Actress, & Filmmaker. 

 

Over the yers there were many themes in the work, which can be seen in the various series depicted here. Gradually the work has been moving full circle back to her first love of physics.. As a child she recalls lying in bed and trying to see new colors, later realizing that the limitations were due to human physiology.

 

The love of Barbie never left her, and it continues to be a prevalent theme in her work. The merging of the minds came in the last decade, and was elucidated in the show "Barbie and the Secret of the Universe", at the Delaney Cooke Gallery in Sag Harbor, NY.

 

Recently Renee received a patent for what was originally conceived as an acoustic Forcefield generator, with implications well beyond the original purpose. Patent #..... and the most recent work, which is not ready to be shared on a public site, has to do with energy transit, portals, and esoteric quantum manipulation, including an independent gravity system.
